Genesis Space Flight Laboratories Raises €1.2 Million to Accelerate Reentry Capsule Technology and Expand Commercial Access to Space

European space startup Genesis Space Flight Laboratories has secured €1.2 million in Seed funding, strengthening its ambition to make spaceflight and payload return services more accessible to researchers, businesses, educational institutions, and individuals worldwide.
The investment round was led by Fil Rouge Capital, with participation from GapMinder VC, bringing Genesis' total venture funding to €1.5 million within just its first year of operations.
The latest funding represents more than financial backing, it reflects growing investor confidence in Genesis' vision of democratizing access to space through affordable, reusable reentry technologies.
A Strong First Year of Commercial Progress
Since launching operations, Genesis has rapidly established itself as an emerging player in Europe's commercial space ecosystem.
During its first year, the company successfully completed its initial operational missions, safely returning customer payloads from space while validating two research payload modules aboard its GEN-1 mission. The flights supported multiple scientific investigations, including fruit fly microgravity studies, fungi and algae microbiology experiments, and a 25-sample near-infrared (NIR) analysis platform.
Alongside its technical achievements, Genesis has built strategic partnerships with industry leaders including SSC Space and Sierra Space, strengthening its capabilities in developing reliable and cost-effective reentry services.
Funding to Advance GEN-5 Propulsion System
The newly secured capital will primarily support the development and testing of Genesis' next-generation GEN-5 propulsion system.
According to Founder and CEO Bence Mátyás, the technology is expected to increase suborbital microgravity mission duration by approximately 30%, significantly enhancing scientific research opportunities.
Beyond suborbital missions, the propulsion system is also expected to enable future orbital spacecraft to perform independent deorbit burns, providing Genesis with greater operational flexibility and reducing dependence on external mission providers throughout the flight lifecycle.
Mátyás emphasized that Genesis is building infrastructure intended to serve far more than traditional government space programs.
"We believe the future of space should not be limited to governments or large corporations. It should be accessible to researchers, innovators, companies, educational institutions, and individuals with meaningful ideas that can benefit from access to space."
Introducing MySpaceCapsule™
Alongside the funding announcement, Genesis unveiled MySpaceCapsule™, a new rideshare initiative designed to make real space missions available to the public.
Starting at €399, the program allows customers to send personal keepsakes, artwork, plant seeds, educational projects, and small-scale scientific experiments into space before having them safely returned to Earth.
The first customer opportunities will be available aboard the company's upcoming GEN-2 mission, currently scheduled for October 2026. The mission will demonstrate a seven-minute microgravity reentry flight using Genesis' 10 cm CubeSat-class reentry capsule.
Orbital Mission Planned for Late 2026
Genesis is also preparing for its next major milestone.
Its GEN-3 mission, planned for Q4 2026, will introduce a larger 20 cm orbital reentry capsule capable of remaining in orbit for approximately two weeks before returning payloads safely to Earth.
While MySpaceCapsule™ targets individual customers, Genesis confirmed that its traditional Rideshare Program will continue supporting universities, research institutions, and commercial organizations requiring larger payload volumes, including biological experiments involving liquids, vials, agar-based studies, and advanced plant research.
Applications for the first MySpaceCapsule™ missions close on September 5, 2026, with payload integration scheduled to conclude by September 15, 2026.
As demand for affordable microgravity research and commercial payload return services continues to grow, Genesis is positioning itself as one of Europe's emerging innovators in reusable reentry technology, bringing space access within reach of a far broader community than ever before.
