In a major move to strengthen Canada’s sovereign space capabilities, MDA Space Ltd. has announced a $10 million equity investment in Maritime Launch Services Inc. at $0.223 per share, officially becoming both an equity owner and a strategic partner.

This partnership marks a pivotal step toward creating a fully integrated “ground-to-orbit” ecosystem within Canada’s domestic space industry. The collaboration between MDA Space and Maritime Launch will accelerate the development of Spaceport Nova Scotia, the nation’s first commercial orbital launch site, enabling reliable, responsive, and cost-effective access to orbit for commercial, civil, defense, and government clients.

“MDA Space’s investment and partnership come at a pivotal moment for Maritime Launch and for Canada’s space future,” said Stephen Matier, President and CEO of Maritime Launch. “Together, we’re creating a sovereign launch solution that strengthens Canadian innovation, drives economic growth, and enhances national security in space.”

Located near Canso, Nova Scotia, Spaceport Nova Scotia is poised to serve as a strategic launch hub on the Atlantic coast—offering global launch providers an alternative, northern-hemisphere gateway to low-Earth orbit across multiple inclinations.

“In a rapidly evolving space industry, Canada’s need for sovereign launch capacity has never been greater,” said Mike Greenley, CEO of MDA Space. “Our partnership with Maritime Launch represents the kind of strategic, future-focused infrastructure the global market demands. We’re proud to support the next chapter of Canadian space capability.”

Beyond bolstering space sovereignty, the project is expected to generate significant economic value across Atlantic Canada and the national supply chain, creating high-quality jobs and attracting foreign investment.

Under the terms of the investment, MDA Space will gain a seat on Maritime Launch’s board and receive pro-rata rights in future financing rounds. The funds will support research and development initiatives tied to the ongoing construction and operational readiness of Spaceport Nova Scotia.

This alliance positions Canada as a serious contender in the global launch services market—delivering the infrastructure, technology, and reliability needed to serve the next generation of space missions.
