Gogo Invests in Farcast to Accelerate Next-Generation Antenna Technology for Business, Military, and Government Aviation

In a move that signals the next leap forward in aviation connectivity, Gogo, a leading provider of in-flight communications for business, military, and government aircraft, has made a strategic equity investment in Farcast, a San Francisco-based developer of advanced satellite user terminals. The partnership aims to bring a new class of compact, high-performance aviation antennas to market, designed to meet the escalating demands of modern airborne operations.
At the center of the collaboration is Farcast’s single-aperture, full-duplex flat panel antenna (FPA), engineered to significantly reduce size, weight, power, and cost (SWaP-C) while delivering increased bandwidth. By optimizing antenna performance without expanding aircraft real estate, the technology is poised to extend premium connectivity to a wider range of aircraft categories—an essential requirement as mission profiles and passenger expectations evolve.
Farcast’s breakthrough lies in its proprietary Active Electronically Scanned Antenna (AESA) technology, which uses electronic beam steering to track satellites from a single aperture. This enables simultaneous transmit-and-receive capabilities in a flat, compact form factor—an achievement traditionally seen as a major engineering challenge. The result is a lighter, more efficient terminal that improves performance while reducing operational constraints.
For Gogo, the investment is a strategic step in building a multi-band, multi-orbit connectivity ecosystem supported by next-generation hardware. Integrating Farcast’s reduced SWaP-C architecture is expected to enhance system performance across customer segments, from business jet operators to government and defense missions requiring resilient, high-throughput communications.
