In a major development for the regional and global satellite communications market, Es’hailSat has unveiled two strategic agreements that will shape the future of its next-generation satellite program, Es’hail-3/Türksat-Biruni.
The Qatar-based satellite operator has signed a landmark partnership agreement with Türksat for the joint commercialization of the Es’hail-3/Türksat-Biruni satellite while simultaneously awarding Thales Alenia Space the contract to design and manufacture the spacecraft.
Together, the agreements represent the most significant investment in Es’hailSat's expansion strategy to date and underscore the growing strategic cooperation between Qatar and Türkiye in the space sector.
A New High-Throughput Satellite for a Connected World
Planned for deployment at the 50° East orbital position, Es’hail-3/Türksat-Biruni will be a high-throughput Ka-band satellite designed to address rapidly growing demand for advanced connectivity services across the Middle East, North Africa, Europe, Central Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and surrounding maritime regions.
The satellite will support a broad range of applications, including:
High-speed broadband services
Aviation and maritime connectivity
Government and defense communications
Enterprise VSAT networks
Telecommunications services
Broadcast and media distribution
Remote and underserved connectivity solutions
Built on a fully digital and reprogrammable platform, the satellite will feature dynamic beam allocation capabilities, allowing operators to redirect coverage, frequency, and bandwidth in response to evolving market demands. The flexibility is expected to significantly enhance service continuity, resilience, and overall network efficiency for customers across multiple sectors.
A Strategic Alliance Between Qatar and Türkiye
Under the newly signed partnership agreement, Es’hailSat and Türksat will jointly leverage their satellite assets, ground infrastructure, distribution channels, and customer relationships to accelerate commercialization of the satellite from day one.
The collaboration aims to maximize capacity utilization while opening new business opportunities in complementary markets throughout Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Central Asia.
Ali bin Ahmed Al-Kuwari, President and CEO of Es’hailSat, said the partnership reflects a shared vision for innovation, resilience, and growth in satellite communications.
"By combining the strengths of two trusted regional allies, we are expanding our market reach, accelerating commercialization of Es’hail-3/Türksat-Biruni, and creating new opportunities for customers across multiple regions."
Ahmet Hamdi Atalay, CEO of Türksat, described the agreement as an example of powerful regional cooperation in space.
"By uniting our infrastructure and expertise, we are boosting our capabilities and delivering next-generation connectivity that unlocks significant opportunities for both public and private sectors."
Thales Alenia Space to Build the Satellite
To bring the ambitious program to life, Es’hailSat has selected Thales Alenia Space to design and manufacture the new spacecraft.
The satellite manufacturer will provide a fully digitalized telecommunications satellite capable of being reprogrammed in orbit and supporting hosted payloads for both commercial and governmental missions.
Ali bin Ahmed Al-Kuwari emphasized that the program is also critical for strengthening Qatar's sovereign communications capabilities and ensuring long-term infrastructure independence.
For Thales Alenia Space, the contract further reinforces its position as one of the leading manufacturers of advanced telecommunications satellites.
Hervé Derrey, President and CEO of Thales Alenia Space, said the agreement highlights the company's ability to deliver innovative, flexible satellite systems that meet the evolving requirements of both commercial and government customers.
Strengthening Connectivity Across EMEA and Beyond
The dual agreements mark a significant milestone not only for Es’hailSat's growth ambitions but also for the broader satellite communications industry. As demand for secure, high-capacity connectivity continues to rise across government, enterprise, mobility, and maritime markets, Es’hail-3/Türksat-Biruni is positioned to become a critical piece of communications infrastructure spanning Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Central Asia.
Beyond expanding capacity and market reach, the project demonstrates how strategic international partnerships can accelerate the deployment of resilient, sovereign, and future-ready satellite networks capable of supporting the next era of digital transformation.
