In a move that strengthens transatlantic collaboration in Earth observation, e-GEOS and VENG have signed a new multi-year agreement to expand the global distribution of data from Argentina’s SAOCOM constellation.
The agreement reinforces e-GEOS’s position as a key global distributor of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data, building on a partnership first established in 2021. It also reflects a deeper alignment between European and Latin American space capabilities, driven by growing institutional cooperation between the Italian Space Agency and Comisión Nacional de Actividades Espaciales.
A Strategic Satellite Alliance for Global Challenges

At the heart of this collaboration is the SIASGE, a joint system integrating Argentina’s SAOCOM satellites with Italy’s COSMO-SkyMed.
This combined architecture represents the world’s first fully integrated European–American radar constellation designed specifically for emergency management. It delivers persistent, all-weather, day-and-night monitoring capabilities, critical for disaster response, infrastructure resilience, and environmental security.
Why SAOCOM’s L-Band SAR Matters
Unlike higher-frequency radar systems, SAOCOM’s L-band SAR technology offers unique capabilities that are increasingly vital across defense, climate, and industrial domains:
Vegetation & Soil Penetration: Enables precise soil moisture mapping, key for agriculture and drought monitoring
Interferometric (InSAR) Precision: Detects ground deformation with centimeter-level accuracy, supporting infrastructure and mining operations
Maritime Domain Awareness: Enhances oil spill detection and vessel monitoring
All-Weather Intelligence: Ensures uninterrupted data collection regardless of cloud cover or lighting conditions
This makes SAOCOM particularly valuable for governments and industries navigating climate volatility, resource management challenges, and critical infrastructure risks.
Market Demand and Commercial Momentum
e-GEOS has already seen rising global demand for SAOCOM-derived insights, especially in:
Infrastructure stability and ground movement monitoring
Mining and energy operations
Environmental risk assessment and oil spill detection
Water resource management, including leak detection in distribution networks
The renewed agreement positions both companies to scale these capabilities across Europe, the Mediterranean, and broader international markets.
A Geopolitical Signal in Space Collaboration
Beyond commercial value, the partnership underscores a broader geopolitical trend: space as a platform for strategic international cooperation.
According to e-GEOS CEO C. Milena A. Lerario, the agreement not only strengthens the company’s data portfolio but also reflects “the strategic value of industrial cooperation between Italy and Argentina,” supported by decades of collaboration and institutional dialogue.
For VENG, the partnership enhances the global positioning of SAOCOM while expanding access to advanced L-band SAR capabilities across new markets.
The Bigger Picture
As Earth observation becomes central to defense, climate resilience, and economic security, partnerships like this are redefining how nations and companies share capabilities.
By combining Argentina’s radar innovation with Italy’s operational and commercial infrastructure, e-GEOS and VENG are not just distributing satellite data; they are shaping the next phase of integrated, global geospatial intelligence.
